I think a lot of people are getting bored with the current state of the game because really there are not that many options to do once you hit 40 RvR wise. Lets take a look at what it is currently:
1. Open RvR - typically just keep raiding/battlefield objectives, if you're on a good server then you might have reached a fortress or even a capital city but that's pretty rare right now.
2. Scenarios - only serpent's passage has been popping for me. Assuming they fix that and get other scenarios to pop it'll still boil down to the grinding those over and over again.
That's really all the options you have right now as a Rank 40 to do any RvR. You can also do PvE stuff but the heart of the game is supposed to be RvR so I think there should be more options than this.
I know some fixes are coming to make things more interesting in open RvR like PQs but besides that I'd like to see other options as well. Here are some of my own suggestions:
1. Realm shared dungeons ala Darkness Falls in DAoC. This is probably the number one thing people have been wanting. It was fun in DAoC and it could work here too as long as the rewards in the dungeon are comparable to lets say fortress/city dungeon type stuff but not as good as city sets.
2. Towns/Quest hubs in RvR areas to capture. they could be tied to the PQs in those areas where the influence rewards would have to be bought from that town. Maybe add some daily quests in that town that give some renown instead of just xp/money.
3. Overhaul scenarios to randomize encounters somewhat. What I mean by that is if they can maybe randomize a map somehow with a random objective, it'll be more interesting than the same few scenarios over and over again.
4. Now that I'm 40 I don't even bother doing any quests anymore and if you have the PQ gear or better you won't even bother doing that either and yet all that stuff contributes victory points towards zone control. It really needs to be easier to lock down zones than it is currently to at least let more people experience the endgame that WAR's supposed to be about.
5. They need to release a better realmwar page similar to what they have with DAoC. They have leader boards but they really need a better page there to show how the realm war is really going. That might get more people involved in it rather than treating the game like an FPS. IMO Showing those stats will let guilds and realms be more competitive or at least see the results of their RvR efforts.
These are just my ideas. I hope mythic comes up with these or better to help make RvR fun again. Anyone else have ideas to make RvR more interesting?
I like 5 alot, not so big on 1.
If it was gated to something, like zone control, then I'd be more ok with 1, but as I'm sure Ikrot can back me up on, DF could be both awesome and annoying.
the rest I could live without, right now I think the biggest problem is that theres not enough rank 40 population to sustain the endgame yet.
When you have enough 40's to be out causing a constant Open RvR war, then you'll get all the 30 somethings who'll come out to do it too with bolster. That'd make the RvR areas more fun in general, and should help with zone control.
I saw something in the patch notes about having scenes have cool downs so you're less likely to get the same one over and over.
Mark has "said without actually saying it" DF is coming.
They have something in the works, no clue when, but it's coming.
A "next gen" version.
Annoying, yea it was.
But if they have lvl restricted instances for it that would kill the biggest annoyance.
Plus, it would finally give the "carrotmongers" that reason to Open RvR.
(Assuming it's only opened through Open RvR and people can't just do 1 million scenarios and then open that one up )

oh and the cooldowns don't work.
Still nordenwatch, Mourkains, etc.
They need a lockdown after each match.
Just a 2-5minute one on the scen you just left(as long as it finished either by time or score)
There is no scen that finishes faster than that even in a total wipe.
Unless people bail, but then you don't put the lock on it.
At this point you have to force people to play other stuff. I am in direct agreement with Flamebrand. First, number 5 is nice. Second, I feel that it is hard to evaluate ORvR until a large portion of players get to 40. This is just an opinion but once players get to endgame I think things will pick up. I know it shouldn't be this way, but people are just concerned with getting to 40 because that where all the fun is supposed to be at, right? And for these people scenarios, not ORvR is the quickest way. I know this opens up the whole "Mythic needs to fix ORvR" debate, but I am not intending to do that. I think ORvR will become rampant once people are no longer fighting for XP, and possibly even renown, but rather for pride. As I said in Thak's post I hate losing, and I sure won't like losing a capital city. That will be bad, bad day.
the race will never end IMO. think of it, once they hit 40, they race for rr50, and then the race for gear.
The next shiny object in reachable distance is what the masses seem to want.
And I fear there will be little thought for it other than zerg masses mutilating each other lol.
A few smart guilds/alliances will take advantage and come out on top, but I still don't see things changing drastically.
WAR offers way too many short term happyness options to make more people look at the big picture.
Scens are short sweet to the point. I've seen SO many posts complaining about how boring keep raiding is.
Doors have too much HP, melee has nothing to do, ranged is useless in doors, etc, etc.
Either that or Mythic will bow to them and make Keep raids a big FPS shooter fest where they drop in 2 minutes and can be soloed.
(exaggerating of course but you know what I mean)
I think scenarios and PvE should not count towards capture of a zone.
Just straight up Keep capping. take control of the zone physically.
It sounded great on paper to give everyone a part in it.
But those people not involved honestly don't give a two craps.
Ask people in a scenario if when they are done they would rather do a keep raid and see how many "LAWLZ" and "NOOBZ" you get from there.
They don't care. They want their little rewards and don't care about the whole thing. Wow mentality. I want my reward screw everything else.
So cut them out. Don't let them influence it and people who really want Open RvR will flood out to defend keeps and objectives.
And your right tab, not enough people that are 40 to really give a true and fair estimate of what its gonna be when WAR is 6 months old.
Plus add in new classes, new balance soon and things will change.
Oh and more rewards to make the mindless drones join us.
well some servers have pretty large T4 populations already. I just switched over to Ironfist from Drifting Castle and it's much more active both in open RvR and scenarios. Destruction actually managed to lock thunder mountain and last weekend. However, the attempts to lockdown Kadrin valley failed despite controlling all keeps/BOs, queuing the scenario there and even a couple groups doing PQs. We also spent maybe a good 3-4 hours camping the order warcamp and continually killing them. We got as close as 91% locked and after awhile people just gave up.
We had a large number of people helping out too so it's not like we only had 1 warband or anything. We also had T3 locked and T1/T2 almost locked.
so even on a fairly active server like Ironfist, you start to get bored and people start to get discouraged after long attempts to lock a zone. Scenarios seemed to pop every 5 minutes even until 4AM on Saturday.
It's not that I even want gear or anything but just the chance to go fight it out in the capital cities is enough for me.
I think we all need that carrot at some point, maybe the carrot is gear or maybe it's just the thrill of winning or like me wanting to do something besides take the same keep over and over and do the same scenarios over and over.
Having keeps/BOs be the way to lock zones would be awesome I think. They just need to make fortress battles much harder. They already have like a 1 hour time limit between capturing the zone next to the fortress and capturing the fortress. I like the moving battlefield concept of locking zones but it needs to be easier.
